It might only be January 2nd, but you can toss that resolution out the door.
That’s right. I (the goal-setting guru) just gave you license to free yourself from your New Year’s resolutions, in 2012 and forever…because resolutions don’t work. How many times have you failed at your resolution and then wallowed in guilt over missing your target? We need to rethink the concept of the ubiquitous resolution and instead tap into the real power behind bringing your dream to life – commitment and the right support.
Making a plan is only the beginning. Realizing when the plan is not working and being able to make changes will lead to success. Everyone will fail in some shape or form along the way, but your perception of a failure doesn’t mean you have to give up. Embrace the stumble and use it to get you to where you want to be.
“More than 500 of the most successful men in this country said their greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which defeat had overtaken them.” (From Think and Grow Rich) Chew on that for a moment.
And you don’t just need a plan, you need a commitment. And I’m talking about unwavering commitment here. You have to envision your success to make it happen. Totally believe in your ability. Unleash your imagination and promise yourself that you will achieve your goal, no matter what. This kind of passion and commitment is essential.
Most importantly, you need to build a team to help you along the way! Businesses have a Board of Directors and successful people have a Dream Team. No one that has reached mass success has done it alone. Success starts with an idea and ends with a group of people who “believe it in,” bringing it to fruition.
It’s your responsibility to build your own Dream Team (however I can help!) This is not about sitting around and waiting for the record executives to discover you. It’s your time to reach out, share your commitment and passion with others and build a basis of support. Your team will give you the guidance, feedback, resources and motivation you need to carry you through the rough spots and help propel you to where you know in your heart you could be.
Thoughts and ideas are the basis of all success, but without ACTION they remain just ideas that get lost in time. Let 2012 be the year you make the commitment to bring your dream to life, and build the team you need to make it a reality!
Dream it. Live it. BE it!
