In this weeks newsletter I wanted to share a video that touches on a topic I feel very strongly about. The #AskHerMore campaign is a movement in Hollywood that strives to dig a little deeper when asking women questions on the red carpet. So often we see them getting asked solely about who they’re wearing or what the process was like to get ready for the event. Rarely do they get asked about their craft, causes they support, or other accomplishments they’ve made.
BuzzFeed took to the red carpet at The Oscars and asked one great question to 11 amazing women – “What advice do you have for young women?” Each one of their answers were things that I can’t wait to share with my own daughter one day.
All of these responses touched me. It’s time to STOP asking for permission to be who you are. Stop feeling as though you have to conform to a certain level of perfection (which we all know is poisonous)! Don’t let your insecurities get in the way of your dreams, and certainly don’t let someone who doesn’t understand or believe in you keep you from chasing after what it is you desire. You can have whatever it is you want, if you’re willing to put in the work.

I would tell young women that regardless of their circumstances in life – they should go “all in”. Bring 100% of who you are to everything you do. You’ll be surprised how happy people are to see you – ALL of you.
Two things come to mind for me: 1) Be firm on your goals in life and flexible in your approach to reaching those goals. 2) Don’t be afraid to change your mind. Things don’t always turn out exactly as you think they “should” within the constraints of what we think we want. However, often what is waiting for us is even bigger than we imagined for ourselves.

Look in the mirror and tell yourself ‘I love you and I believe in you’ every day, even when it feels uncomfortable and unnatural.
Be mindful of your expectations of yourself and others and don’t attach yourself to the results. Allow the plan to unfold instead of trying to control it.
