How to Get Over Your Nerves Before a Speaking Engagement

Nerves…do they get the best of you? It is well known that one of the biggest fears is public speaking, but YOU are passionate about your message and want to share it with as many people that will listen. Getting nervous is normal, in fact if you don’t feel any butterflies then I’d be a little worried! However, nerves can quickly sabotage your message and leave you and your audience feeling less the enthused in the end. In this short video, I share some simple tips on how to combat those nerves so you can shine on stage, on-camera and in your life.

Speaking is one of the quickest ways to build your business and connect with your tribe. Whether you are new to business or just have a message you want to share with others these tips will certainly help get you started.

Be sure to keep breathing. This is SO important! If you forget to breath it causes everything to speed up, including your speaking. Take a few deep breaths before you head on stage to relax and slow down your system!

Make a conscious effort to make eye contact with and smile at members of the audience. It helps them connect and feel like you are really speaking to them, instead of over their heads. Slow down your speaking and really connect with them.

Share a story! It creates and emotional connection with the audience that you don’t want to miss out on having. They feel like they know you better and can connect on a deeper level.

Lastly, move around! Get your body moving, it will help you relax and reach every part of the audience.
