The Secret to Overcoming Imposter Syndrome

Overcoming the deep-rooted belief that you don’t deserve to be successful is called Imposter Syndrome. Many people suffer from this, even high-profile celebrities like Tina Fey, Sheryl Sandberg, Serena Williams, Tom Hanks, Jodie Foster, and Kate Winslet, just to name a few.

One of the core attributes of someone who suffers from imposter syndrome is the need to be perfect. Stop telling yourself you need to be perfect. The “P” in “perfect” stands for poison. When you show up for your audience they don’t want perfect, curated content. They want YOU, in your truest form.

Suffering from these feelings can really hold you back from achieving the success you want by holding yourself to unrealistic perfection. In this episode, Keri Murphy shares her advice to clients to help them be authentic to their true selves in order to be more successful in life and business.

Here are a few of my favorite takeaways:

  • Where does this feeling of inadequateness come from and why do you feel this way? You must first recognize where it’s from to deal with and move past these feelings.
  • We connect most with real, relatable behind-the-scenes content. Being authentic and showing real-life stuff will make you relevant to your audience.
  • Imposter syndrome is extremely common so you’re not alone. Even famous, successful people suffer from these feelings which stem from the need of being perfect. The more you allow yourself to be imperfect, the more you see how your authentic self is good enough to achieve your goals.
