Do you love to speak and engage with others? Do you crave making those special connections with your ideal clients? Going into 2020 were you excited about your speaking engagements and the live events you were hosting…only to find that they were canceled? Sadly, they became a bunch of empty rooms and therefore an empty bank account.

Let me tell you, my friend, today there is such great opportunity for you to keep speaking your truth, doing what you love, impacting lives, and making money. Do you know where it’s happening? You guessed it—online!

Why You Should Start Speaking at Virtual Events

The first thing I want you to do is breathe. Breathe in, breathe out. So many events were canceled last year; it is what it is. We can’t change what’s happening now, but we can change what we decide to make happen today.

If you’re like my fiancé, who previously made a living touring, you too had to quickly come up with another way to carry on and generate income. Michael has done that very thing. He creates these amazing experiences through his online shows every single weekend. He even has an audience that is so engaged, they can’t wait for his next virtual concert! And he monetizes every show too.

I had a client with 27 engagements booked at the beginning of last year, and he was heartbroken that they were all canceled. But, he turned things around and started a podcast.

He’s reaching MORE people, he’s doing events ONLINE and he’s making MONEY. So first I want you to breathe and I want you to shift your mindset to this new platform—a new way to reach people. Because here’s the good news…

Everyone IS online!

I’m telling you, if you’re speaking to something people truly care about, they will show up. Virtual events, workshops, and masterclasses are all incredible resources you can leverage right now.

How to Make the Shift to Online Speaking

Think about what you’re going to speak about. What is your desired result and how will you promote it?

You can go Live in your Facebook Group, on Instagram, on YouTube, etc. Maybe you host a masterclass or a webinar? There are so many opportunities for you to speak at virtual events that others host, while also creating your own online speaking presence it’s important to just get started.

At Inspired Living, we completely shifted from live events to virtual ones last year, and like you, I thought, “It’s not going to work. I’m not going to make the same impact online that I can in-person.” To be quite honest, it was just a story I was telling myself. Silly, right? I had to look in the mirror and rewrite that story.

And guess what? We have never been more successful than we are right now! I’m committed to reaching out and doing what I love…speaking and teaching. Watch the video for more inspiration to rewrite your story.

Virtual Speaking Must-Have Takeaways: If you take anything from this video, I want you to remember these 3 things:

#1—You are in control. You don’t have to wait for someone to ask you to speak. You have all the tools you need at your fingertips. I often say, stop waiting for someone to find you. Stop waiting for someone to crown you an expert. Step into your worth and share your genius online. The right people will find you!

#2—Your network equals your net worth. Who do you know doing events? What summits can you speak at online? Don’t be afraid to invest in the right opportunities by sponsoring an event as a means to be a featured speaker. You will forge new, amazing opportunities. Pay and be willing to do it for free, because you’ll get in front of brand new audiences you’ve never reached before.

#3—It’s all about positioning yourself. Here’s the question to ask yourself right now: How am I showing up as a speaker? To position yourself as the expert you are, get your speaking assets together. Rewrite your bio, design a beautiful speaker one-sheet, and put together a media kit that includes references and testimonials. Position yourself as an expert because the marketplace is crowded, but in front of the right audience, you can make wonderful things happen.

Now, I initially built Inspired Living by speaking at lunch-n-learns—all those little events got me to the big stages. And I had this AHA moment…you do not have to wait for an opportunity to create an event. Given everything happening in the world, there is still great opportunity for those willing to seize it. You have an amazing vehicle to do what you love, make an incredible impact, and earn an income doing it.
