What Makes Someone An “Expert”?

Have you been waiting to crown yourself the expert in your field? Do you often see so-called “experts” online that don’t seem to be all that they say they are? In this digital age anyone can call themselves an expert but what really separates the self-titled to truly deserving?

So often we find that many people who seem to know what they are doing on the surface, aren’t really the expert they claim to be. They may just be saying what you want to hear, in order to get your business! Finding someone who is authentic and true to his or her word is something that we don’t see enough – and very hard to come by!

If you have all of the knowledge in your field, and are ready to crown yourself an expert, I have a few tips for you in my new IL TV video.

What Makes Someone an Expert?

By definition it is someone having comprehensive or authoritative knowledge in a particular area. With the digital age, just about anyone can be an “expert” and too often we see such authorities selling the “map” to a place they’ve never been. If you are ready to crown yourself an expert or are trying to verify someone else here are a few things to consider…

  1. Have you navigated the map? (aka the result) you are claiming you are an expert in?
  1. Do they have a proven track record of results? Social proof is a big deal – if you are just starting out in your field, or you haven’t gotten testimonials from previous clients, get them! Testimonials are valuable to your business.
  1. Do they walk their talk? Are they authentic and well connected? Do you feel like this person really lives and believes in what they are selling?

I want to hear from you…have you been waiting for the perfect time to crown yourself an expert? What might be keeping you from calling yourself an expert?
