Do you have a difficult time staying focused because you’re a visionary?
Most visionaries suffer from a very serious syndrome that can keep them spinning in circles going nowhere fast…it’s called “bright shiny object syndrome.” I know, I’ve suffered myself and am here to tell you although it can’t be completely cured, it can be controlled.
When you’re someone who finds inspiration in so many places and things, it’s easy to get side tracked and go from one idea to another, without ever finishing what you initially started! If you don’t sit yourself down and take the time to realize and clarify which direction is going to make you happiest and fulfill you in the best way possible, you may never figure it out!
It’s important to prioritize in order to make yourself capable of turning these dreams into a reality. Taking the time to sit down and be creative without the added stress of how you’re going to pay the bills helps with productivity in the long run! I know there are many other visionaries out there like myself who had to learn to control that “bright shiny object syndrome”.
- Get really clear on your priorities and why they are important- it’s easy to be distracted when you don’t have a clear vision of where you are going and WHY you want to get there.
- Do the income generating tasks first- as a visionary it is easy to stay stuck in creation mode while your bank account is draining. Start the day or the week on projects that will bring in income so you have time to create without stress.
- Set the timer- yes, that’s right. If you find yourself going down the Facebook or Pinterest rabbit hole for hours on end, you are wasting lot’s of your precious time. Set a timer for 20-30 minutes and then move on. You have too many lives to impact to be looking at or worrying about what everyone else is doing!
- Be accountable! You cannot expect to stay on track by yourself, find a coach or small group where you can check in and make sure you’re on track.
Now I’d love to hear from you! I know I can’t be the only one who’s got some great tips on staying focused – what is it that you do to help keep yourself on task? Leave your tips in the comment section below!

Brilliant! All four of these are things that help me. Thank you for the reminder to do it more frequently. You’re so right!
