Life is a journey, much like driving down a road with winding paths, fast moving highways, city streets, forks in the road and the occasional dead end. A winding path, takes you through scenic views to your destination, whereas on the fast moving highway gets you there in a blur of taillights before you know it. Traveling a city street is systematic. The occasional stoplight and street sign guide you along the way. Approaching a fork in the road, suddenly the choice is yours. Did you make the choice? Panic may set in at the sight of a dead end, but if you turn around a new opportunity to start over has arisen.
When I closed my business in 2008 and started completely over, I had NO idea where my life would take me. I was full of apprehension and fear, but I believed that there had to be something greater, and there was. All I had experienced and all of the incredibly painful times prepared me to speak and nurture others. Now I am able to use my talent and love for empowering others in a way I could have never dreamed of. In retrospect, I couldn’t have prepared myself better. The journey to get here was not an easy one, but the realization that by changing my perspective and understanding that we are constantly learning and unconsciously preparing for what is next, I have found peace. You can do the same. That doesn’t mean you won’t feel or experience pain, but there is great solace in knowing you can draw from those experiences and use it wherever you are going.
Buddha said, “It is better to travel well than to arrive.”
We never know how the path we are on currently will lead us to the one that lies ahead. Our struggles and challenges disguised as dead ends and opportunities to take the road less traveled are often preparing us for something bigger. Enjoying life’s journey, whether the pace be fast or slow, and taking with stride the bridges, cross roads, and bumps along the way will only give you greater satisfaction in reaching the final destination. For most that “final destination” is actually only a temporary stopping point, life is in continual motion, just like the cars on a map.
Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister, once said, “Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.”
Shine ON!!
