It is Time to Strip Down

It is amazing what a difference a week or so makes. Just a couple weeks ago I was sitting in a makeup chair getting my hair and makeup done and preparing to take the stage at the Oregon Women’s Conference. I had my full glam squad with me to make sure every blemish was covered, every hair was sprayed just right, and that I looked like a million dollars in the most beautiful dresses and jewelry. I loved every minute of it!

Today, I am sitting in my office, with my hair pulled back and very little makeup. I am juggling my time as I care for my honey after he had hip surgery last week. As much as being dolled up is a part of who I am (I was raised in a family who primarily worked in the beauty and entertainment industry), I absolutely love and feel just as beautiful when little to no effort is made.

Grammy Award-winning, singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat created a powerful song and music video called “Try” which magnifies the unfair beauty ideals our society has set forth for women. The impact Photoshop has had on women has truly changed the way we see ourselves and has raised the bar of feeling even less comfortable in front of a camera. In fact, the number one reason people tell me they don’t use video for their business is because they hate the way the look on camera.  It kills me!

Ladies, it is true; you do not need to try so hard. You do not need to be perfect. We need to stop hiding behind the lens or behind a fantastic filter on Instagram. Most people are more inclined to want to do business with someone they can relate to, who does not always appear to be perfect, or speak in perfect sentences.

Let’s work together to encourage each other to feel beautiful dressed to the nines or in pajamas and messy hair. Your brand is your message, your heart, and YOU…perfectly imperfect at any time of day.

I want to see the REAL you. Post a photo in the comment section and tell us when you feel the most beautiful. Do you feel the pressure to look perfect. I know I do, so I will start…photo 7
As always, thank you for being a part of the Inspired Living community.

Shine ON!
