How to Believe in the Beauty of Your Dreams with Miss America 2002

In honor of the 4th of July I’m pulling one of my favorite episodes out of the archives. Katie Harman-Ebner is one of my dear friends. During her episode we discuss what it takes to make dreams reality. Plus by watching the video you’ll see just how far we’ve come in pursuing our dream of growing ILTV 🙂

I’ll never forget standing in the audience, watching Katie Harman-Ebner get crowned. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. I had been with her every step of the way and just before we went to the Miss America Competition, September 11th, 2001 happened. We almost didn’t travel because we were nervous about our freedom.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

So we decided, we’d worked too hard not to go, we packed our things and boarded our flight. Yes, we were nervous about what could happen but we were determined to keep our freedom.

Katie was not what you normally might think of when you think “pageant girl” (hey, I was one too.) In fact, Katie Harman-Ebner was not one of those little girls who had always dreamed of being “Miss America.” In a mere twist of fate, she was introduced to the program as a college freshman as a way to help pay for her education. During that competition she made it her mission to show up as true to herself and the judges took notice of her talent and authenticy.

By believing in her dreams and dedicating herself to make them happen, Katie became the first Oregon title holder to wear the Miss America crown.

Sometimes we get too wrapped up in the reasons why something can’t happen, that we forget to truly believe in our dreams and in ourselves. Katie is an amazing example of having faith and dedication.

In this ILTV episode you will learn…
  • How to pursue your dreams while feeling fulfilled
  • Why Miss America?
  • How to breakthrough stereotypes
  • How to get committed to your dream

Remember, “When you yourself feel like your dream has been realized, that is success.”

In the comments below I’d LOVE to know, what dream are you pursuing? How are you committing to it?

Remember that by sharing what inspired you below, you could inspire someone else.

As always, thanks for tuning in! Until next time Dream it. Live it. BE it!
