Are You Guilty of This Too?
Tell me if you’ve ever been guilty of this. I confess… I have once or twice. You go out and buy something expensive, not because you needed it or really even wanted it that much, but because it made you feel important or even powerful. Perhaps it was a little retail therapy of sorts. Or just plain keepin’ up with the Joneses. But what if we were to move towards feeling more than having, and being more than doing?
Goals are important, of course. But instead of looking at what you have, concentrate more on what you want to be, how you want to feel and how you want to experience life. So many times we live to have things and we forget about how we want to feel, the relationships we want to nurture and grow, and who we are actually being. When you shift that focus you will bring a peace into your life, which you will appreciate so much more.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s ok to have what we want to have, but is there a feeling you’re trying to acquire by getting those things? Having does not bring happiness. There are a lot of people who have a lot of stuff that are miserable and there are those that have little but are full of gratitude and joy. Is it really about the house, car or expensive handbag, or is it more about how we want to be perceived in the community? So many of us strive to feel adequate or important, let’s just make sure our intentions are pure and we’re trying to bring about those feelings in a healthy way.
Take an honest look at what is within you, what your values are and what you want to feel in your life. When you concentrate on what you want to feel instead of what you want to have, it’s a much more fulfilling place to live.
Dream it. Live it. BE it!
